Toolbox cannot find miners
- Subnet: confirm the workstation can reach the miner IP range directly or through intended routing.
- Firewall: temporarily test from a trusted operations network without local firewall rules blocking discovery or miner API access.
- VPN: disconnect consumer VPNs that change routes or block local LAN discovery.
- IP range: scan the exact management subnet, not the office Wi-Fi or a stale DHCP range.
- Credentials: scan visibility and authenticated actions are different. Wrong credentials can still leave devices visible but not actionable.
No compatible devices selected
This message usually means Toolbox can see something about the miner but cannot apply the selected action. Common causes include unsupported hardware, unsupported control board, stock firmware restrictions, wrong current firmware state, or trying to install Braiins OS through the wrong path.
Stock firmware and locked workflows
New stock firmware versions can change what third-party tools can read or modify. Braiins release notes have repeatedly mentioned compatibility improvements for newer stock firmware and communication changes. If the miner was updated recently, check the latest Toolbox release notes before assuming older instructions still apply.
Pool settings do not apply
- Confirm credentials and permissions for the miner web/API interface.
- Test one miner with a simple pool update before using templates or worker variables.
- Check whether the miner runs Braiins OS, Bitmain stock firmware, or a different custom firmware.
- Confirm the pool URL protocol and worker format are accepted by your pool.
- Watch the miner after reboot to ensure it actually package notes to the intended pool.
When to switch to SD card or vendor support
If Toolbox cannot apply the intended install action, SD card workflows or vendor support may be the correct next step. This is especially true when the device needs recovery, the control board path is specific, or stock firmware blocks the remote installation route.
The install guide explains when Toolbox, SD card images, or Braiins Manager are better fits.
